Please understand that although wearing a sling is very easy, it does take practice. With time and patience you will learn how to put your baby into the sling easily and quickly. You will find that using your sling soon becomes second nature. It’s best to start with a baby who is well fed and rested. Once you get the baby into the sling, start moving around—they love the motion.

THREADING YOUR SLING

1. Lay your sling down with the pocket facing up.

2. Gather the fabric of the tail together working towards the center, like you are folding a fan.

3. Pass the tail through both rings. Be sure the fabric is not twisted.

4. Thread the tail back over the top ring and under the bottom ring (like a belt).

5. Be sure the fabric is gathered evenly around the rings and that the edges are isolated. The sling should not move unless you purposely adjust it.

PUTTING YOUR SLING ON

1. Hold the sling in one hand with the rings in front of you and the tail out.

2. Slip the sling over your head so that the padding is on your shoulder and the hammock falls across your body. The sling can be worn on either shoulder.

3. Adjust the sling by pulling on the tail. And create a pocket for your baby by pulling a wall of fabric against your body.

4. Pick up your baby and ease him into the sling. Place your baby in the sling so that his head is on the same side as the rings (newborn). Hold the sling open with one hand while holding your baby with the other hand.

5. While supporting the weight of your baby, pull the tail of the sling until your baby is snuggly held against your body.

6. Adjust the front and back rails of the hammock independently to get a better fit. To adjust rails, pull on the outside edges of the tail just below the rings.

7. To remove your baby, pull on the top ring and loosen just enough to ease baby out. This will make it so you do not need to rethread the sling next time you want to carry your baby.

TIPS

  • Start with rings high on your shoulder before you put baby in. As you tighten the sling, the rings will move down.
  • Tighten the top rails by pulling up and over rather than down.
  • Try you sling on in front of a mirror.
  • Be sure the fabric is spread evenly over the rings.

NOTE

There are many other ways to wear your baby in your sling. The method shown here is commonly called the cradle hold and is used primarily for newborn - 6 months.
